Job Role

1. Role Purpose 

The General Manager (GM) is the chief executive of day-to-day operations. The GM provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and commercial leadership to ensure the company achieves its ambitious growth target of doubling revenues within 2 years. 

This role balances vision and execution: translating the founder’s strategic aspirations into structured systems, empowered teams, and measurable results. The GM will institutionalize professional management practices, oversee multiple departments, and position company as a market leader in diagnostics, medical equipment, and healthcare solutions in Kenya and the region. 

2. Key Responsibilities 

A. Strategic Leadership & Growth 

  • Develop, communicate, and execute a 5-year strategic roadmap (2026–2030) with clear annual milestones. 
  • Spearhead market expansion beyond Nairobi: Coast, Rift Valley, and Western Kenya, with county government and mission hospital partnerships. 
  • Diversify product lines into theatre equipment, hospital furniture, consumables, and radiology equipment, while sustaining the diagnostics core business. 
  • Monitor market and regulatory trends; adjust company strategy to remain competitive and compliant. 
  • Champion innovation and digitization: CRM implementation, ISO standards adoption, and performance dashboards. 

B. Commercial & Sales Excellence 

  • Lead the Sales & Marketing function to achieve in monthly revenue by the end of Year 1. 
  • Deliver an annual revenue, leveraging product diversification (medical equipment and consumables), an expanded sales force (including regional representatives), and strengthened commercial operations (CRM, credit control, SOPs). 
  • Oversee tendering processes, placement contracts, direct hospital sales, and credit sales. 
  • Design and enforce structured credit policies to reduce client attrition due to unpaid debts. 
  • Build and mentor a high-performance sales team; recruit regional representatives to strengthen nationwide coverage. 
  • Optimize pricing strategies while sustaining company reputation for quality and reliability. 
  • Negotiate partnerships with Tier 1 hospitals and emerging clients. 

C. Operational & Financial Management 

  • Ensure financial sustainability by reducing Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) to ≤ 45 days. 
  • Maintain healthy gross margins and control operational expenses. 
  • Oversee finance and accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate reporting (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow). 
  • Strengthen warehouse, procurement, and logistics systems; digitize inventory to reduce stock losses and expiry risks. 
  • Enforce SOPs across the procurement-to-payment cycle, warehouse, deliveries, and technical support. 
  • Lead cost optimization initiatives without compromising service quality. 

D. People, Culture & Leadership 

  • Build a performance-driven culture through performance-based contracts, KPIs, and appraisals. 
  • Oversee talent acquisition and succession planning, especially in Sales, Technical, and Operations. 
  • Mentor departmental heads (Finance, Operations, Sales & Marketing, Technical Services, Procurement). 
  • Introduce structured employee development, training, and recognition programs. 
  • Drive change management initiatives that reduce reliance on the founder, promote accountability, and encourage innovation. 

E. Governance, Risk & Compliance 

  • Oversee the implementation of institutional policies: HR, Finance, Procurement, Sales, Quality, and Data Protection. 
  • Ensure 100% compliance with KMLTTB, Pharmacy & Poisons Board, KRA, NHIF, NSSF, DOSHS, ISO 13485, and related standards. 
  • Establish credit-risk frameworks, including consideration of credit insurance. 
  • Oversee internal audits and ensure robust financial controls. 
  • Provide monthly performance reports (financial, commercial, operational, risk, and strategic initiatives) to the Executive Chairman. 
Qualification

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Biomedical Sciences, or related field. 
  • Master’s degree (MBA, M.Sc. Healthcare Management, or equivalent) strongly preferred. 

Experience: 

  • 12–15 years in progressively senior roles; minimum 5 years at senior management level. 
  • Proven leadership in medical diagnostics, healthcare distribution, or B2B sales organizations. 
  • Strong experience in P&L management, organizational restructuring, and credit control. 
  • Track record in expanding into new markets and product diversification.
