Role Overview

The Aviation Technician/Operator – Oil & Gas is responsible for executing safe, accurate, and compliant aviation fuel handling operations at airport terminals and fueling sites. This is a highly technical, field-based role requiring strict adherence to HSSE protocols, aviation fueling standards, and industry regulations.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, safety-conscious professional with technical training in fuel systems, equipment handling, and operational procedures. The role is central to ensuring aircraft are fueled correctly, on time, and in line with international aviation fueling protocols.

Roles & Responsibilities

A. Aircraft Refueling Operations

  • Carry out safe and efficient fueling and defueling of aircraft in accordance with IATA, JIG, and company standards.
  • Operate refueling trucks, hydrant dispensers, hoses, and valves with precision and care.
  • Monitor fuel flow, pressure levels, and ensure clean, dry, uncontaminated fuel is delivered to aircraft.
  • Communicate with cockpit crews and ground staff during fueling operations.

B. Equipment & Systems Handling

  • Conduct pre-use and post-use inspections of refueling equipment, nozzles, hoses, and filters.
  • Report any equipment faults or safety hazards immediately to the supervisor.
  • Ensure correct usage and care of fueling vehicles, meters, and pressure gauges.
  • Carry out routine maintenance checks and refueling truck hygiene inspections.

C. Safety, Compliance & HSSE Execution

  • Strictly follow HSSE protocols including the use of PPE, grounding procedures, and spill prevention measures.
  • Report any near misses, safety incidents, or fuel quality concerns to the Safety or Operations team.
  • Participate in emergency response drills, fire safety training, and tool box talks.
  • Maintain full compliance with all airport, aviation authority, and internal safety policies.

D. Fuel Quality Control & Documentation

  • Conduct routine fuel sampling and testing (density, visual checks, water content) prior to dispensing.
  • Maintain accurate fueling logs, batch numbers, vehicle records, and fueling time reports.
  • Complete quality control forms and inspection checklists in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure traceability and documentation of all fuel deliveries and movements.

E. Shift & Team Coordination

  • Work in shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays as per roster.
  • Coordinate with other technicians, apron staff, and flight operations teams for fueling readiness.
  • Ensure clean handovers and proper communication during shift changes.
  • Assist in mentoring junior operators and new recruits as needed.
Qualification
  • Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aviation Operations, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years’ experience in aviation fueling, petroleum depot operations, or fuel handling.
  • Certification in aviation fuel handling (e.g., JIG standards, IATA guidance) is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with fuel testing, vehicle operations, airport safety standards, and technical reporting.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in a fast-paced, regulated airside environment.
  • Valid driving license; heavy vehicle license (Class BCE) is an added advantage.
