Job Role

The Tundish Support Operative supports the preparation, handling, cleaning, and maintenance of tundish equipment used during the continuous casting process. The role ensures tundish-related activities are carried out safely and efficiently in accordance with established operating procedures.

2. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

• Support safe preparation and handling of tundish equipment.
• Assist in maintaining tundish readiness for casting operations.
• Support continuous casting activities.
• Maintain good housekeeping around the tundish area.
• Follow all safety and operational procedures.

3. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Tundish Preparation

• Assist in preparing tundish equipment for casting.
• Support cleaning and preparation activities.
• Assist with application or handling of refractory materials as directed.
• Ensure required materials and tools are available.

B. Casting Support

• Support CCM operators during tundish-related activities.
• Assist with safe movement and positioning of equipment as directed.
• Monitor the work area and report abnormalities.
• Follow instructions during casting operations.

C. Equipment Care & Housekeeping

• Assist with cleaning and basic maintenance activities.
• Report damaged or defective equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness and order around the tundish area.
• Properly handle and store tools and materials.

D. Safety

• Follow all molten-metal and high-temperature safety procedures.
• Wear required PPE.
• Maintain safe working distances.
• Report hazards and incidents immediately.

Qualification

4. QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum KCSE qualification or equivalent.
• Previous steel manufacturing, casting, furnace, or industrial experience is an added advantage.
• Technical or vocational training is an advantage.
• Must be physically fit.
• Willingness to work shifts.
