Job Role
The Technical Sales Engineer – Water & Irrigation will be responsible for driving sales and business development within the water, irrigation, and related engineering solutions sector. The role combines strong technical knowledge with commercial and customer-facing responsibilities to identify opportunities, understand client requirements, develop suitable technical solutions, prepare quotations and proposals, and convert opportunities into profitable business.
2. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- Drive revenue growth within the water and irrigation market.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities.
- Provide technically sound solutions based on customer requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and other industry stakeholders.
- Develop competitive technical and commercial proposals.
- Support successful execution of sales opportunities from enquiry to closure.
- Strengthen the company's presence and market share within the water and irrigation sector.
3. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Technical Sales & Business Development
- Identify and pursue new sales opportunities within the water and irrigation sector.
- Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective customers.
- Conduct client visits, site assessments, technical consultations, and product presentations.
- Understand customer requirements and recommend appropriate technical solutions.
- Prepare and present technical and commercial proposals.
- Follow up on quotations, tenders, and business opportunities through to closure.
- Meet agreed sales targets and revenue objectives.
B. Water & Irrigation Solutions
- Provide technical guidance on irrigation systems, water management solutions, pumps, equipment, and related products.
- Interpret technical specifications, drawings, BOQs, and project requirements.
- Assist clients in selecting suitable products and systems based on application and technical requirements.
- Conduct site assessments and provide technical recommendations where required.
- Work with technical teams to ensure proposed solutions are practical and commercially viable.
C. Client & Stakeholder Management
- Develop strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Engage contractors, consultants, engineers, developers, government institutions, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Understand customer challenges and provide appropriate technical solutions.
- Handle customer enquiries and provide timely technical and commercial responses.
- Maintain regular follow-ups with clients to strengthen long-term relationships.
D. Tendering & Commercial Support
- Monitor relevant tenders and project opportunities.
- Review tender documents and technical specifications.
- Prepare quotations, proposals, and tender submissions.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure accurate pricing and technical documentation.
- Participate in negotiations and commercial discussions where required.
E. Market Intelligence & Reporting
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, pricing, and emerging opportunities.
- Identify potential projects and market segments for business growth.
- Maintain accurate sales records and opportunity pipelines.
- Prepare regular sales forecasts and performance reports.
- Provide management with market feedback and recommendations.
F. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with engineering, procurement, finance, logistics, and operations teams.
- Coordinate technical requirements from enquiry through delivery.
- Ensure customer expectations are aligned with the company's technical and commercial capabilities.
- Support after-sales engagement and customer satisfaction.
