Job Role

1. Role Purpose 

The School Principal provides strategic, academic, operational, and administrative leadership to ensure the seamless delivery of high-quality education and holistic student development. The role oversees curriculum delivery, teacher performance, school operations, learner welfare, discipline management, facilities oversight, and stakeholder engagement. 

This position leads the day-to-day running of the school, ensuring teaching excellence, regulatory compliance, resource optimization, effective coordination across departments, and a stable learning environment. As the school expands its academic standards and operational structure, the principal acts as the anchor of institutional stability, quality assurance, accountability, and continuous improvement. 

2. Key Responsibilities 

A. Academic Leadership & Learning Excellence 

  • Provide strategic leadership in curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation. 
  • Ensure high-quality teaching and learning through lesson observations and teacher coaching. 
  • Set academic targets, track learner performance, and lead continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Oversee lesson planning, assessments, timetables, academic reports, and exam readiness. 
  • Ensure compliance with MOE/TSC curriculum standards, accreditation requirements, and examination regulations. 
  • Lead enrichment programs, remedial learning, talent development, and co-curricular excellence. 

B. School Operations, Safety & Administrative Efficiency 

  • Oversee daily school operations including scheduling, facility readiness, resource allocation, and workflow coordination. 
  • Ensure effective management of admissions, student records, reporting systems, and administrative documentation. 
  • Enforce school policies, safeguarding standards, discipline frameworks, and emergency procedures. 
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-functioning school environment conducive to learning. 
  • Ensure full compliance with Ministry of Education, TSC, and school governance requirements. 

C. Staff Leadership, Capability Building & Performance Management 

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to all teaching and non-teaching staff. 
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and professional development programs. 
  • Conduct teacher appraisals, monitor performance, and implement improvement plans. 
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, collaboration, and a culture of high professional standards. 
  • Address and resolve staff conflicts, disciplinary matters, and performance gaps. 

D. Student Discipline, Welfare & Inclusion 

  • Oversee student discipline systems, behavioural management, and pastoral care structures. 
  • Ensure learner safety, emotional well-being, inclusivity, and access to support services. 
  • Manage counselling programs, behavioural interventions, and welfare cases. 
  • Lead and promote co-curricular activities including sports, clubs, arts, and competitions. 
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and learner- centered school culture. 

E. Parent Relations, Communication & External Engagement 

  • Act as the primary communication link between the school and parents. 
  • Lead parent meetings, academic clinics, engagement forums, and information sessions. 
  • Address parent concerns professionally, promptly, and transparently. 
  • Build partnerships with education bodies, community stakeholders, and external partners. 
  • Promote and enhance the school’s reputation, values, and public image. 

F. Financial Management & Resource Stewardship 

  • Support budgeting, financial planning, and cost control for academic and operational needs. 
  • Ensure prudent utilization of school resources including teaching materials, equipment, and facilities. 
  • Track and monitor resource allocation, inventory usage, and asset care. 
  • Contribute to cost-efficiency initiatives and identify areas for operational optimization. 

G. Performance Monitoring, Reporting & Regulatory Compliance 

  • Track performance indicators including academic results, attendance, discipline, and staff productivity. 
  • Prepare and present comprehensive reports to the School Board/Director. 
  • Ensure full compliance with MOE/TSC standards, safety guidelines, staffing ratios, and reporting requirements. 
  • Lead school inspection readiness, audits, and accreditation processes. 
  • Use data-driven systems to support institutional improvement and operational decision-making. 
Qualification

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education (mandatory). 
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership/Administration is an added advantage. 
  • Valid TSC registration where applicable. 
  • 7–10 years’ teaching experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership/administration role. 
  • Proven experience in academic management, staff supervision, and school operations. 
  • Strong communication, leadership, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills.
