POSITION OVERVIEW

The Civil Engineer – Technical Officer will provide technical leadership, site coordination, and strategic oversight for ongoing construction and infrastructure projects. This role ensures high standards of structural integrity, compliance with building regulations, and alignment with project budgets and timelines. The role also includes management responsibility for site teams, technical staff, and contractor performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Project Planning & Technical Oversight

• Review and interpret architectural and engineering designs, ensuring feasibility and compliance with building codes and standards.
• Lead the development of technical plans, structural drawings, BOQs, and materials specifications.
• Support tender evaluations and contractor selection through technical input and assessments.

2. Site Supervision & Quality Control

• Oversee day-to-day site operations, ensuring timely progress, safety compliance, and technical accuracy.
• Supervise subcontractors and internal site engineers, resolving technical challenges as they arise.
• Ensure quality assurance protocols are followed, conducting routine inspections and audits.

3. Contract & Stakeholder Management

• Coordinate with consultants, regulatory authorities, quantity surveyors, and internal stakeholders to align technical work with broader project goals.
• Monitor contractor performance, ensuring adherence to contracts, timelines, and quality expectations.
• Participate in regular site meetings and reporting to senior management.

4. Resource & Team Management

• Lead technical site teams including engineers, technicians, and supervisors.
• Assign duties, manage workflow, and evaluate performance of technical staff.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement on all project sites.

5. Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate project documentation including drawings, change orders, daily site reports, and compliance records.
• Ensure regulatory and statutory compliance (e.g., NCA, OSHA, local authority permits).
• Report on project progress, technical risks, and mitigation strategies.

Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution (Master’s an added advantage).
• Registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or equivalent professional body.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in civil engineering with at least 2 years in a technical lead or supervisory capacity.
• Proven experience in structural works, commercial or residential building projects.
• Familiar with project management tools, AutoCAD, MS Project, and construction-related software.
