Job Role

Role Overview

The Finance Manager – Oil & Gas is a key leadership role responsible for driving the financial health, compliance, and strategic financial planning of the organization. Working closely with executive leadership and department heads, the Finance Manager ensures accurate financial reporting, cost optimization, cash flow visibility, and regulatory compliance across all finance functions.

The ideal candidate will bring both strategic and technical finance expertise, grounded in the unique operational, regulatory, and risk considerations of the oil and gas sector — including aviation fuel services, bulk fuel handling, and petroleum logistics.

Roles & Responsibilities

A. Financial Planning & Budget Management

  • Lead the development and execution of the organization’s annual and long-term financial plans.
  • Prepare and monitor departmental and organizational budgets, identifying trends and variances.
  • Guide resource allocation to ensure operational efficiency and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Oversee forecasting models to support scenario planning, risk mitigation, and growth initiatives.

B. Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Supervise the preparation of timely and accurate financial reports, statements, and management dashboards.
  • Provide strategic financial analysis and insights to support executive decision-making.
  • Track performance against key financial KPIs and recommend interventions where needed.
  • Ensure full visibility into cost structures, project returns, and margins across business units.

C. Regulatory Compliance & Statutory Reporting

  • Ensure full compliance with all tax, financial, and statutory obligations under Kenyan law.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of tax returns, audits, and reports to regulatory authorities (KRA, NSSF, NHIF, etc.).
  • Maintain awareness of changes in legislation and accounting standards affecting the oil and gas industry.
  • Liaise with external auditors, consultants, and legal advisors as required.

D. Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

  • Monitor daily cash flow positions, bank transactions, and liquidity forecasts.
  • Develop and enforce controls around receivables, payables, inventory, and capital expenditures.
  • Support treasury functions including investment decisions, debt structuring, and banking relationships.
  • Optimize working capital while ensuring operational continuity and capital efficiency.

E. Internal Controls & Risk Management

  • Strengthen financial governance through the development and enforcement of internal controls.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to financial operations, compliance exposure, and asset security.
  • Mitigate fraud risks by ensuring segregation of duties, approval protocols, and real-time monitoring.
  • Champion audit readiness and documentation discipline across all financial activities.

F. Team Leadership & Systems Strengthening

  • Lead and develop the finance and accounting team with a focus on accuracy, integrity, and accountability.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior finance staff.
  • Support ERP and financial systems implementation, upgrades, and process automation initiatives.
  • Promote a data-driven, compliance-focused culture within the finance function.
Qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • CPA (K), ACCA or equivalent professional qualification is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years’ experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in the oil & gas, energy, or industrial sector.
  • Strong understanding of petroleum industry cost structures, regulatory requirements, and tax frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, reporting, risk control, and audit management in a regulated environment.
