Job Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Farm Manager on behalf of our client, a leading agricultural organization dedicated to sustainable farming practices and community development in Homabay, Kenya. The Farm Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing all farm operations, including crop cultivation, livestock management, and land administration. Leveraging expertise in land economics and real estate, the Farm Manager will be responsible for strategic planning, resource optimization, and regulatory compliance to ensure the farm's long-term success and sustainability. Responsibilities:

·       Provide leadership and direction to all farm operations, overseeing the cultivation of crops and the management of livestock in accordance with best practices and industry standards prevalent in the Kenyan agricultural sector.

·       Develop and implement strategic plans for farm development and growth, identifying opportunities for expansion or diversification of agricultural activities to maximize productivity and profitability, leveraging expertise in land economics and real estate.

·       Research and evaluate potential farms for lease or purchase, considering factors such as soil quality, water availability, and proximity to markets, and negotiate favorable terms and conditions for land agreements in alignment with local regulations and customs.

·       Apply knowledge of land economics and real estate principles to assess the economic viability of farm operations, conduct feasibility studies, and make informed decisions regarding land acquisition, leasing, or disposal to optimize farm assets and resources.

·       Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and service providers to procure inputs and services essential for farm operations, negotiating contracts and ensuring timely delivery of goods and services to meet production deadlines and quality standards.

·       Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to crop yields, livestock health, and financial performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective measures to optimize farm efficiency and resource utilization.

·       Supervise and train farm staff, providing guidance and support in the execution of daily tasks and fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous learning in accordance with Kenyan labor laws and regulations.

·       Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements governing agricultural activities in Kenya, including environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and land tenure laws, to mitigate risks and protect the farm's reputation and sustainability.

 

Qualification

·       Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science, or related field from a recognized institution, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in farm management or a related role.

·       Specialization in land economics, real estate, or related field preferred, demonstrating expertise in assessing land value, conducting market analysis, and negotiating land transactions.

·       In-depth knowledge of agricultural practices and technologies relevant to the Kenyan context, including crop rotation, soil conservation, and integrated pest management, as well as animal husbandry techniques for common livestock species.

·       Strong leadership and decision-making skills, with a proven ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve production targets and operational objectives in a dynamic and challenging environment.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including farmers, government officials, community leaders, and industry experts.

·       Proficiency in local languages to facilitate communication with community members and demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect.

·       Proficiency in computer applications and farm management software.

·       Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, with a track record of implementing environmentally friendly practices and supporting community development initiatives in the areas where farms operate.

·       Willingness to travel regularly to farm sites and other locations as required to fulfill job responsibilities.
